All Provide Dog Food Review

AllProvide Dog food was originally founded as a raw pet food brand, however, in 2015 expanded into the gently cooked dog food space in order to provide dog owners and pet parents with more fresh food options for their canine companions. All Provide aims to provide natural nutrition without the use of synthetic supplements, using a combination of whole food ingredients and herbs to fill in nutritional gaps.

As of 2021 two of the three, gently cooked dog food recipes have been completely reformulated. The only recipe that has not changed is the beef recipe. All of the gently cooked recipes by AllProvide are high fat (over 50% on a caloric basis), and restricted in carbohydrates (less than 10% on a caloric basis). Protein content between recipes is highly variable with the Turkey and Pork recipe being the highest in protein (at 39% on a caloric basis), and the Pork recipe being the lowest (at 25% on a caloric basis).

The turkey and pork recipe by AllProvide would be an ideal composition for a dog who is highly active, with over an hour of intense activity per day. The other recipes due to their lower protein content, but high-fat content may be a good choice for dogs who need a high fat, carbohydrate-restricted diet (similar to a keto diet), or that are picky eaters. The beef and the pork recipe may also be a good choice for a dog with dog food allergies, as they are single protein recipes that do not contain chicken or poultry. Due to the high-fat content of these recipes dogs with fat sensitivity may not do well on these diets (such as dogs prone to pancreatitis).

Frequently Asked Questions ( FAQ )

Where to buy AllProvide Dog Food?

The AllProvide meals can be found online or in select pet stores within the USA. You can find their full menu, and set up a meal plan on their website. However select quality dog food stores may sell AllProvide along with other healthy fresh food options.

How do you store and feed All Provide?

AllProvide dog food is shipped frozen on dry ice. In order to thaw AllProvide diets, you have to defrost them in your fridge. Each 1 lb block should take about 24 hours to defrost, it is generally recommended to store fresh food for no longer than 3-5 days in your fridge, then store the rest in your freezer.

Though it can take a bit of time to get used to the rotation of freezer – fridge – bowl, over time you will become confident on how much you need to keep in your fridge and freezer without having to thaw food last-minute to feed.

If you do need to thaw food quickly – there are two safe ways to do so. First is placing the closed package in a bath of cool water, rotating the water until the food is defrosted. The second is using the defrost setting on your microwave. Simply remove the food from the package into a microwave-safe container and microwave on the defrost setting.

DO NOT heat up the food using a stove-top or microwave prior to serving. Some vitamins are heat sensitive and reheating may reduce them below recommended minimum levels. For full instructions on how to store and feed All Provide, check out their website.

Is AllProvide Balanced for Puppies?

Yes, AllProvide is balanced for puppies, but it is not balanced for large breed puppies.

AllProvide vs. Kibble – how does it compare?

In comparison to kibble, lightly cooked foods like All Provide offer a different type of processing at lower temperatures. Most kibbled foods are cooked at between 400 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit or are dehydrated at a lower temperature for a long period of time, then have preservatives added to keep the diet shelf-stable for up to a year. In contrast, gently cooked diets like AllProvide use a combination of whole fresh food ingredients, cooked at lower temperatures for a shorter period of time, and use little to no preservatives (sometimes vitamin E) and the freezer to maintain freshness.

Is AllProvide a Raw Dog Food?

AllProvide does manufacture both lightly cooked and raw dog food. Gently cooked foods can be a great choice because pathogens and contaminants are removed during the cooking process, and foods are broken down to allow for easy digestion. This can be good for puppies, older dogs, and those that are immune comprised. Lightly cooking the food also limits contamination of the environment, keeping cross-contamination to a minimum.

Can All Provide be Used as a Topper?

Yes – using All Provide as a meal topper is a great option for pet parents looking to gain some benefits of fresh food that may not have the budget to feed only a lightly cooked diet. Supplementing a kibbled diet with toppers can also be a good option for picky dogs who need changes in flavor on top of their regular diet.

How much does AllProvide Cost?

Depending on the size of your dog the cost of AllProvide might be more or less expensive than what you are currently feeding. However, the typical 50 lb dog that eats 1000 calories per day would eat about 22.2 ounces of the AllProvide Turkey & Pork Recipe. Since the AllProvide Turkey & Pork Meal has a price of $6.59 per lb, it would cost about $9.14 per day to feed, or $274.20 per month.

If you would like a quote of how much it would cost to feed your pup one of the AllProvide Meals, feel free to reach out to their customer service for more information.

Are AllProvide Recipes Good for Dogs with Allergies?

Dogs who have allergies can fall into two different groups – food allergies or environmental allergies. We do have some research that suggests a higher protein, high-fat diet may be helpful for dogs who suffer from seasonal allergies – which suggests that All Provide meals may be good for dogs with environmental allergies. They also contain fish oil and cod liver oil – both of which are high in omega 3 fatty acids which have been known to be beneficial for allergy management.

Food allergies though they present similarly to environmental allergies are not managed in the same way. For food allergies we simply just avoid the allergen in question, thus it would be highly dependent on what your pup is allergic to as to which recipe may be appropriate. But statistically speaking dogs tend to have allergies to beef or poultry – thus the pork recipe might be a good option if you have a dog with food allergies.

Are All Provide Meals Good for Dogs with Loose Stools or Diarrhea?

Typically when we are looking for diets for dogs with loose stools we tend to reach for recipes that are highly digestible and lower in fat (except in certain cases such as fiber responsive diarrhea or IBD – where a novel protein is advised). As all of the All Provide lightly cooked recipes are over 50% fat on a caloric basis, this suggests that the fat content in All Provide may be too high for dogs who have a more sensitive stomach.
